Lord of the Rings Analogy - Exercising Your Authority

LORD OF THE RING IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES! It is a classic tale of good versus evil.

This is a powerful part of the movie and really shows such a metaphor between breaking strongholds and restoring oneself in the Name of Jesus. Watch the clip and follow along with the metaphors of biblical spiritual warfare against demonic strongholds.

Wormtongue = Enemy 1. Notice that the enemy pretends to have the King's best interest in heart 2. The enemy knows to strategize to be in a position to attack you as a partner by putting evil words 3. The enemy expects Gandalf and tries to make Gandalf come into agreement with his demonic words and approaches - Tries to scare him 4. Notice that his demonic power puts the rest of the kingdom in bondage

Gandalf = The Christian Even though he is a wizard in this movie, notice his spiritual warfare 1. He walks in with Authority 2. Speaking in Authority = Spoke aggressively and Told the thing to be silent and disarms the enemy with them

The Wand = Bible, Cross, Holy Spirit Immediately after disarming, Notice that the enemy get fearful when Gandalf pulls out his power with the wand. This is a metaphor of the Power of Word (Ephesians 6), Holy Spirit, and coming in the Name of Jesus.

Gandalf Team = Angels and other Christian warriors He walks in with a team = signifies Angels and other Christian warriors (come in 2 or 3 scripture) fighting on his behalf

ACTIONS

Gandalf spiritual warfare against King Theoren 1. Keeps his eyes on him 2. Approaches in a not panicked and confident manner 3. Encourages the King of who he really is by speaking over to him

Reasons why first time of warfare failed 1. Gandalf speaks in a timid manner the first time "I release you " 2. Speaks on his own authority "I release you" 3. Closes his eyes, loses power of focusing on the enemy

2nd time successful = Exorcising demonic strongholds 1. Stands in authority 2. There is anointing power in his attire 3. Comes in the spiritual authority with wand = represents the Cross and Bible 4. Speaks in a command and reminds him again of the truth, dispelling lies of the enemy 5. Persists multiple times until strongholds are destroyed 6. Keeps eyes and spiritual weapon on him, moving close 7. Speaks specifically to the demonic power "Sauron" that is controlling him

King restoration 1. Looks healthier 2. Remembers who He is and his authority 3. Encourages by those that love him 4. Kicks out enemy 5. Gandalf reminds King of full restoration of fighting back "grab your sword" = The Bible speaks about the sword of the spirit which is the Word of God. This is our weapon of ultimate power. Notice how the King gains full authority and warfare when he pulls out the sword.

This clip is a huge metaphor for breaking strongholds and restoring oneself. Replacing the magic with the Word of God, His anointing power, Angels depicts the power in the Name of Jesus. If you are reading this and under strongholds, review what Gandalf did but use Jesus. Ephesians 6 is a perfect reference passage of this.
